Annual Garden Competition Awards

Garden competition award presentation
Green fingered Gloucester City Homes tenants have received their awards at the company’s Annual Garden Competition Presentation at held at Gloucestershire College.
The awards were presented by GCH Chief Executive Ashley Green, along with competition judge Dr Sam Harding of Hartpury College, and National Federation of ALMOs Most Outstanding Resident Maureen Norman.
As well as the more traditional garden types, the competition featured a number of special new categories this year including the best club or society garden and the best school garden project.
This year’s entrants had worked hard to produce some excellent results from stunning containers and colourful hanging baskets to succulent vegetables. The winners received prizes of framed prints of their gardens as well as gardening vouchers.
GCH Resident Involvement Officer Lyn Scudamore says: This year’s competition produced a record number of entries from individuals and community groups across the city. The overall standard of entries was exceptional. The inclusion of a new schools category resulted in awards to 3 local schools in recognition of exceptional achievements within their gardening and wildlife projects. GCH recognises and applauds the hard work and enthusiasm of people taking pride in not only their own gardens but also the wider community.
Dr Sam Harding, Programme Leader for Horticulture at Hartpury College added:
‘Standards this year have exceeded our expectations with some fantastic gardens entered into the competition. There were a number of new categories again this year and I was delighted to see so many children involved in growing vegetables in their schools and the wonderful entries in the community garden category. Congratulations to everyone who entered.’
Vice Chair of GCH Customer Forum Pat Scannell says:
‘I would like to congratulate all the winners in this year’s competition. The award ceremony at Gloucestershire College was a fantastic event and was also a great opportunity to support the college.
