Improvement success for Junior Wardens
New dropped kerbs have been installed in Hill Hay Road, Matson thanks to a recommendation by Matson Junior Wardens, the Cool Kidz Crew.
The group identified a lack of drop kerbs for disabled access in the area during an estate inspection around Matson. The Junior Wardens findings were relayed to the County Council Highways Department which then carried out a survey. The Council agreed to fit the dropped kerbs due to the local proximity of 33 bungalows the residents of which would use the route to access the local shops.
This has been a great result for the Cool Kidz Crew demonstrating good partnership working with service providers and also that agencies will listen to the suggestions of young people to help improve the lives of their local community.
The Junior Warden scheme was set up by Gloucester City Homes, Gloucestershire Police Authority and Robinswood Primary School three years ago. So far, the Wardens have helped improve the their local area by getting new benches installed, assisting with the selection of new play equipment and making hanging baskets to help brighten up the Matson shopping parade.
Commenting on the Junior Wardens achievements, Terry Elcock Resident Involvement Officer for Gloucester City Homes: “I am delighted with the Junior Warden Scheme and it is clear that working with young people will help to build stronger communities for the future."
PCSO Chris Jenkinson adds:
"The Cool Kidz Crew continues to work very hard to suggest improvements to their local community. The Wardens are beginning to see their good work making a difference with this scheme and graffiti being removed throughout the community. It is great to see young people identifying these improvements."
