Gas safety
Faulty gas appliances can cause explosions and give off poisonous fumes.
Sometimes known as the ‘Silent Killer’, carbon monoxide is a deadly gas, which kills around 40 people every year. You can’t see, taste or smell it and it can kill in just hours. Even low levels can cause serious health problems.
If we have installed gas central heating or any other gas appliance in your home we must by law, service it annually.
For further information about arranging for your gas service and our service standards see the maintaining your home pages| of the website.
Remember, carbon monoxide can kill in hours. Don’t put yourself, your family and others at risk of illness or death. Make sure we can get into your home to service your appliances.
We are not responsible for checking gas appliances that you have fitted yourself. To ensure your family’s health and safety you must get such appliances checked and serviced every year, by a Corgi registered gas engineer.

Carbon monoxide poisoning
Carbon monoxide kills—but you can’t see it, taste it or smell it.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas. If an appliance that burns gas, oil, coal or wood isn’t working properly it may give off this gas. This
can also happen if the appliance is in a room with poor ventilation or a blocked chimney or flue.
What should you do?
-
Keep your Home Safety Check appointment.
-
Get any gas appliances you’ve fitted yourself checked each year by a Gas Safety Registered engineer.
-
Have any chimneys regularly swept and kept clear.
-
If you’re buying a carbon monoxide detector, get one that complies with BS 7860. Don’t rely entirely on these devices.
