Smokefree Gloucester City Homes - July 1 2007
The Health Act 2006 introduced a ban on smoking in enclosed areas within most areas to which the public have access and places of work from 1 July 2007.The ban was introduced to limit the risk of second-hand smoke causing lung cancer and respiratory disease.
How will the ban affect me?
The ban applies to common parts of all buildings like corridors, lifts, landings and foyers. If you smoke in Gloucester City Homes smokefree areas, you could be fined. Please look out for and comply with the no smoking signs.
Can I still smoke in my home?
Gloucester City Homes is committed to ensuring that employees are protected as far as possible from the effects of second-hand smoke.
When the ban was introduced we wrote to all our tenants asking them:-
-
not to smoke for a period of 30 minutes before a pre-arranged visit and during a visit
-
to make sure that any other people living in the property do the same
-
to limit their smoking to rooms where staff will not be working and to open windows in the rooms where staff are working to clear second-hand smoke, if they are unable to avoid smoking,
If a tenant decides to continue smoking and a Gloucester City Homes' employee or contractor decides that the smoke is excessive, they may ask:
-
the tenant not to smoke during the visit
-
for the windows to be opened
-
for time may be allowed for the smoke to clear before work starts.
If a Gloucester City Homes' tenant does not comply with these reasonable requests an employee or contractor is then authorised to terminate the visit.
