Homeless accommodation services

Working closely with Gloucester City Council’s Housing Options Team, Gloucester City Homes manages various properties that are designated for the use of households that have been accepted as homeless under the Homelessness Act 2002 and are awaiting permanent accommodation, or households under investigation by the Homeless Team.

It provides safe and secure accommodation as an alternative to B&B, whilst at the same time arranging support to help them to prepare for more permanent accommodation.

Gloucester City Homes Homeless Hostels

In 2009 we opened our first homeless hostel in Weston Road, Gloucester. Caridas House is a 14 bedroom hostel which provides a safe and secure place for families to stay. With shared facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms and a laundry, households form a close community within one property.

In 2010 we opened Park Road homeless hostel. This accommodation consists of 9 bedrooms and shared kitchen and bathrooms. Park Road is used to temporarily house 16 to 24 year olds while their homeless application is being assessed.

Gloucester City Homes also has various properties of all sizes, scattered across the city used to house homeless households temporarily, until more secure housing is found.

Homeless Prevention

If you need help please contact the Housing Options Team at Gloucester City Council as soon as possible. They frequently need to investigate complex cases, and to verify what you are telling them, so the more time they have the better.

If you think you may become homeless soon they will always do their best to prevent you from actually becoming homeless.

If, for example, you have received a Notice to Quit from your landlord take it to show them as soon as possible so that they can advise you best how to proceed - they may be able to prevent the Notice from being taken any further, and so keep you in your home.

If you are a Gloucester City Homes tenant and are in arrears, our staff will assist wherever possible to prevent you from being evicted. Please see our Advice on rent arrears page.|

We will:

  • make a referral to a support or advice agency to help you with your finances
  • ensure that you are receiving the correct benefits that you are entitled to and access to any grants or funds available to you
  • liaise closely with Gloucester City Council’s Homeless Team and Gloucestershire Social Services when an eviction is expected.
